Andrew Spates Jr. (“Sonny” AKA “My Daddy’s Son”) of Waterloo, Iowa departed his life on June 30th, 2025.
He was born June 7th, 1975 in Waterloo to Dorothy Spates and Andrew Spates Sr. He attended Waterloo East High School.
He is survived by his daughters, Keyanti (Deante) Mosley, Shavionte (Dajon) Spates, Jaylaun Galloway-Spates, and Alay’la Spates; his sons, Juwan (Jessica) Spates, Andrew (Amarie) Spates III, QueShawn Roby, Quintarus Roby, and JaDale Roby; his mother, Dorothy Marie Spates; his sisters, Kimberly (Suka) Athuman, Anshalita (Antowon) Spates, DaShauna (Cedric) Spates, and Evangeline Spates; his brothers, Christopher (Robyn) Spates, Kayi (Tanisha) Spates, RaCardious Spates, Joseph (Phylesia) Spates, and Emmanuel (Kiara) Spates; his 14 grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and a special friend, Alazsha Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Spates Sr.; two grandmothers, Alice Collins and Annie Bell Patrick; two grandfathers. Floyd Collins and John Turner; and a host of aunts and uncles.
