Delisha Rhynese Hoosman's Obituary
A precious one from us has gone,
a voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home
which never can be filled.
And after a lonely heartache,
and many a silent tear,
We’ll always have a beautiful memory
of one we loved so dear.
Delisha Rhynese Hoosman, 49, transitioned and received her wings on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Delisha, boldly and affectionately known as “Bo,” was born on October 16, 1976 in Iowa City, Iowa to Cornell Akhitito Hoosman and Ophelia Carter.
She attended Longfellow Elementary School, Central Middle School, and graduated from West High School in 1995. Before moving to Omaha, Delisha worked for PPG and TJ Maxx in Waterloo, Iowa. She later became employed with Renewed Vision in Omaha and was also a dedicated foster mother.
She accepted our Lord and Savior under the pastoral leadership of Reverend George Howard, Sr., at Antioch Baptist Church.
Delisha loved and treasured her family and friends deeply and wholeheartedly. She didn’t mince words; she said what she meant and meant what she said. If you were one of her siblings, she would have your back. Spend a little time with them, and you’ll hear story after story, some that will make you laugh until you cry, others that will remind you of her strength, her protective spirit, and the way she stood ten toes down for those she loved. All it took was one call, and Bo would show up without hesitation, ready to stand firm and handle whatever needed to be done. If you were blessed with her friendship, you knew she would go to the ends of the earth for you, no questions asked. If you knew Delisha, you knew her loyalty was fierce, her love was unwavering, and her presence left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Her love for her children surpassed everything; they were truly her pride and joy. For over twenty years, it was just Delisha and Ta’Lea, side by side, growing together, learning together, and building a bond that could never be broken. When Ta’Lea left for Savannah, Georgia, to attend college, letting her go was not easy. Though her heart struggled with the distance, encouragement from family in Georgia and reassurance that Ta’Lea would be cared for gave her peace. She wasn’t an empty nester for long, soon came Cartier, her handsome little guy who warmed everyone’s heart. In her eyes, he could do no wrong, and before long, he became her protector. At such a young age, he learned how to administer her medicine and took great pride in caring for his mother with a tenderness far beyond his years.
Delisha enjoyed the simple joys of life like playing dominoes, slapping cards on the table during a spades game, entertaining friends, and adding her own choice of curse words to any good conversation. Her mouth had its moments, but her heart was pure gold. And when the music started, she never missed a chance to show off her dance moves, especially when the Percolator came on.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Ta’Lea Wilson (Damon) Miller and Cartier Latiker; her grandson, Mehki Kehlani Miller; her mother, Ophelia Carter (Robert) Anthony, Sr.; her siblings, Marlando Hoosman, Passion Anthony, Marlandus Anthony, Robert Anthony, Jr., Markiyonno Winston, Courtney Hoosman, LaToya Harrington, DaVeen Harrington, Michael Rhodes, Marchell Harmon, and Sharriee Harmon; her godfather, Kurt Sallis; her godmothers, LaTanya Graves and Lillie Polk White; her cousin Nia Wilder, whom she referred to as her “firstborn”; her cousin Dontay Hoosman, whom she referred to as her brother; a host of special people, including Ernest (Shai) Latiker; her besties, Sherronda Wilder, Tiffany Young, Tasha Alexander, Natasha Keeling Duncan, Kaliah Porter Smallwood, Da’Vanesha Graves, and Tasha Mobley; along with her aunts, uncles, family, and friends.
Delisha was preceded in death by her father, Cornell Hoosman; her maternal grandparents, Lela Jones Fesby (Owens) Fesby and Al Carter, Sr.; her paternal grandparents, Evelyn and Detroit Hoosman; her uncles, Albert Jones, Ed Lee Jones, LT Jones, Jesse James Jones, and Jonathan Smith; and her aunts, Velma Walton, Betty Hodges, Patricia “Chicky” Jackson, Twyla Thomas, and Betty Anderson.
Memorials may be directed to the family at 228 Newell Street, Waterloo, Iowa.
