Demetrice Martin's Obituary
A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled,
And after a lonely heartache, and many a silent tear,
We’ll always have a beautiful memory of one we loved so dear.
Demetrice Lamont “Fat” Martin was born August 25, 1982 in Greenwood, Mississippi to Neil and Bertha Ree Martin Sr.
Demetrice accepted Christ at an early age. He attended and graduated from Leflore County High School in 2000 in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Demetrice will truly be missed. His favorite song was “Cooling Waters”.
He departed his life on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Neil Martin Sr. of Morgan City, Mississippi; two sisters, Mary Sanders and Brenda Saffold of Morgan City; two brothers, Walter Saffold of Morgan City and Neil Martin Jr. of Waterloo, Iowa; one uncle, Davis (Lynette) Martin of Norfolk, Virginia; five aunts, Agnes and Ida Martin of Waterloo, Ella Hall of Norfolk, and Frankie Mae and Alberta Martin of Morgan City; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Demetrice leaves to cherish his memory another second mother and father, Annie Mae Martin and Larry Johnson Sr.; a special sister, Larresha Martin; and three special brothers, Larry (Bree) Johnson Jr., Lakey Martin, and Edward Martin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Ree Martin; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Mattie Mae Johnson; paternal grandparents, Frank and Alberta Martin; his twin sister; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Memorials may be sent to the family at 1107 Burton Avenue, Waterloo, where they will be receiving friends.
