Ethel Lee Holmes' Obituary
Ethel Lee Holmes came into this world on November 26, 1946 in Durant, Mississippi to the late Willie D. Holmes, Sr. and Lillie Mae Williams Holmes. She was affectionately called "Tit".
Ethel graduated from Durant Attendance Center/Central Mississippi College in 1966. She attended Mississippi Valley State College, Itta Bena, Mississippi.
Then she relocated to Waterloo, Iowa where her older brothers had already relocated and had established employment with John Deere Tractor Company. After relocating she established employment with Waterloo Industrial for three years, then left for employment with John Deere Tractor, retiring after 30 years of service on August 31st, 2006. She began to get bored sitting at home and started working at Walmart Super Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa for four years.
Ethel enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved her family dearly, always lending a helping hand where she could. She loved to dress and impress as the phenomenal woman that she was.
Ethel is survived by one son, Charles Henry Holmes, Sr.; five grandchildren, Ratoya RaShay Holmes of Iowa City, Iowa, Shean Henry Holmes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charles Henry Holmes Jr. (a.k.a. Chucky) of Atlanta, Georgia, Monte D. Dickens of Minnesota, and Christopher Lance Holmes of Waterloo; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Willie D. (Doris) Holmes, Jr., Tommy L. Holmes, and Dan (Madonna) Williams, all of Waterloo; six sisters, Elnora Dallis of West, Mississippi, Tarstie Bailey, Margie Holmes, and Deloise Holmes, all of Waterloo, and Geraldine Watson and Sarah (Willie) Miller, both of Toledo, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and cousins. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and cousins. Those whose path crossed with hers will miss her also.
Ethel was preceded in death by her father, Willie D. Holmes Sr.; mother, Lillie Mae Williams Holmes; two brothers, Deacon Louis Holmes, Sr. and Pastor Robert Lee Holmes, Sr.; one sister, Everlena Holmes; two brothers-in-law, David Dallis, Sr. and Jimmy Watson, Sr.; and her dearest friend, Gwen Cherry.
