Isaac "Brother" Garry's Obituary
Isaac “Brother” Garry entered eternal rest on Monday, May 5th, 2025 in hospice care from natural causes.
He was born to John and Florence (Creamer) Garry on February 4th, 1932 in Goodman, Mississippi.
Isaac attended school in Holmes County, Mississippi until the eighth grade and began working to help support his family. As a young man he welcomed a daughter, Helen (Meeks) Archie, and a son, George Lee Gary, from prior relationships. He moved to Sioux City, Iowa in the late 1950s, working for the railroad before settling down in Waterloo, Iowa where he resided.
He met Roberta Davis, a devoted mother to sons Albert (Sandra), Richard, Phillip, and Douglas Davis. From their union Carol, Debra, and Kevin were born. He raised them all with love and commitment.
Our father was a hardworking man and provided for many. After his initial retirement in 1996 from Warren Transport, “Doo Daddy” returned to work and retired a second time in 2006. He continued hauling farming machinery until he could no longer work.
He was an active member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church of Waterloo until he could no longer serve. We will tremendously miss his amazing cooking! He loved to listen to the blues and dance. He lived up to his name’s meaning, “he will laugh”.
His legacy is lovingly carried on by his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers, George “Ed” (Ruby) and Arthur “Leeman” Gary; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was welcomed home by his life partner; maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; daughter, Helen Archie; son, Richard Davis; two grandchildren; sisters, Johnnie Shannon, Lily Roby, Shirley Gary, and Rosie Norman; baby brother, Georgenette Gary (infancy); and close loved ones, Clinton Jones, Ralph Love, Hal Andrews, and Herbert Speller.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
