Leon Vincent Mosley's Obituary
Leon Vincent Mosley of Waterloo, Iowa departed this life at Waterloo Hospice House on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Leon was born March 1, 1946, in Amory, Mississippi to Willie James Mosley and Ruth (Stewart) Mosley.
Leon’s early education started at Grant Elementary School, Logan Junior High School, and graduating from Columbus High School where he played on the basketball team.
Leon accepted Christ at an early age at St. Mary’s and St. Peters Catholic Church where he served as altar boy and Queen of Peace. Leon later joined and became a member of Union Missionary Baptist where he served as an usher and enjoyed singing with the male chorus. Leon cherished the times when Pastor Jenkins would give him the opportunity to lead and open Bible study.
Leon retired from John Deere after 36 years of service. Leon was a very active community leader serving in the following areas:
• 16 years at the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors
• 13 years as co-chair of Iowa’s Republican Party
• Worked closely with the Waterloo Police Department
• Spoke out against crime, drugs, and gun violence
• Long-standing member of the NRA

Leon was so passionate about feeding his birds and watching Gunsmoke with his cousin Eric Mosley. When they watched Gunsmoke, if someone watched with them he would let them know no one was allowed to talk during the show or they wouldn’t be invited back . . . those were the house rules. After retirement Leon could be found at his office under the umbrella in his yard, known as THE VIEW. All were welcome, from the Police Chief, Catholic Priests/Ministers, Mayor Hart, to family and friends. There they would have discussions ranging from the Bible to politics and current events.
Leon married Teresa Mitchell and to this union were born six children. He later married Cheryl Means – no children. He later married Kathy Cross and from this union they had three children. Finally, Leon met and married the love of his life, Rhonda Hodges, and in this union he gained two children.
Leon is survived by two brothers, David (Daree) and Robert (Rosa) Mosley of Waterloo and a sister, Christeen (Eugene) Howard from Atlanta, Georgia. He has eleven children – Terry Mitchell (Magina) of Omaha, Nebraska, Angel Stigler of Waterloo, Tim (Joy) of Minnesota, Deon (Qwanna) of North Carolina, James (Dana) of Waterloo, Michelle (Greg) King of Alabama; Mike of Illinois, Leon C from Cedar Rapids, Corey of Waterloo, and Ayrondus and Ayris Hodges of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
