Leticia Diane Williams' Obituary
On September 10, 1953, in Waterloo, Iowa, a flower was planted. We know that flower as Leticia Diane Williams, daughter of Ruth Etta Williams and Obie Williams Jr. Her Bonus father was Willie Richmond Sr.
Leticia attended Grant Elementary, Logan Junior High School, and graduated from West Waterloo High School. Leticia was among the first class of African American students allowed to attend West Waterloo High. It was not without controversy because of racial tensions of the day. She went on to attend Allen Nursing School and graduated as a nurse’s aide, working in the field for several years. Leticia learned of the Lord at a young age and was baptized. She united with Antioch Baptist Church and later joined Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She loved working in the church and developed many relationships. Even when demons raised their heads, she always spoke of the goodness of God.
Tish was employed with Deere & Company until the massive layoffs in the ’80s. Her most precious love is her son, Bryant. He and his children were forever on her mind.
Tish leaves to mourn her son, Bryant (Towanja Linn) Williams of Clarksville, Tennessee; two brothers, Willie (Veronica) Richmond and Brent (Denoise) Richmond, all of Waterloo; one sister, Shari Dale of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her granddaughters, who include: Paris Williams (Phoenix, Arizona), Zion Williams (Lafayette, Louisiana), Jaelyn Walker (Lexington, Kentucky), and Teauna Anderson (Clarksville, Tennessee); and one grandson, Bryant Farmer (Tallahassee, Florida). Leticia was blessed with her six great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She considered all her nieces and nephews as extensions of her own children. There are a host of them. Tish also treasured the rest of our family; it didn’t matter where they lived, she was forever loving and giving, cherishing all of her relationships, especially those with Catherine, Jean-Lynette, Polly, Pauline, and Francis.
On July 3rd, 2025, Leticia Diane Williams was plucked from the garden and transplanted to bloom, in the Masters’ Bouquet.
Leticia was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Will and Ludillia Wright; her sister, Tijuana Williams; and the rest of the blessed.
Gifts may be directed to Bryant and the family.
