Marvin T. Ellis' Obituary

Marvin T. Ellis passed away from natural causes on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 29, 1934, he was the youngest of Otha Ellis Sr. and Amy Love Ellis’ four children.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Kathleen Hunter, Othaleen Smith, and Otha Ellis Jr. They were very close and enjoyed spending time together. Marvin was also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Jacqueline Wright Ellis, with whom he shared many joyful years.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Pam Williams; two grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved cousin, Opal Toy. Special acknowledgement to his nephew, Dr. Russell Adams, and his wife, Mary, for their unwavering support, dedication, and love.
Marvin’s journey was marked by dedication and resilience. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa. After graduation he joined the Army, serving his country in World War II. Upon returning, he married his loving wife and best friend, Jackie.
Marvin began his career at Rath Packing Company and was later with University of Northern Iowa (UNI) where he eventually retired.
Marvin had a deep enthusiasm for military history. He collected WWII history books and enjoyed watching military movies. In June 2023, he was honored to attend an “Honor Flight for Veterans” to Washington, DC, where he visited memorials and was honored and thanked for his service to the country. Marvin also was passionate about classical music. He enjoyed listening to Luciano Pavarotti, one of his favorite artists. Marvin was actively involved in volunteering in the community. He especially enjoyed tutoring children with learning disabilities.
Marvin’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and resilience will continue to inspire those he spent time with.
