Roosevelt Roby's Obituary
Roosevelt Roby, 98, of 525 Warren Drive, died Friday, April 18, 2025 at Cedar Valley Hospice, Waterloo of natural causes.
He was born on March 30, 1927, in Goodman, Mississippi, son of Henry Roby Sr. and Hattie Gary. He married Mable Sallis, and they were later divorced. He then married Amanda Paul on November 25, 1955, in Waterloo. She later died in 2007.
Roosevelt was formerly employed at the Rath Packing Company, retiring after 31 years of service. Roosevelt was a dedicated member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and was part of the Transportation Ministry. Roosevelt loved to fish and would leave home as early as 4:00 a.m. to get to his favorite fishing hole. After fishing all morning, he would come home and clean what he wanted to keep and go out in the community and either sell the rest or give it away. Roosevelt also loved to hunt racoons for their pelts. He and Dale, his best friend from Rath’s, would go out and sometimes come home with 40-50 coons to skin. He would have folks coming all the way from several different states to buy those pelts.
Roosevelt is survived by one son, Pedro D. (Theresa) Hayes of Des Moines, Iowa and his dearly loved and devoted companion, Judy Lindsey; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Henry L. Roby and Roosevelt Roby, Jr.; two brothers, Willie D. Roby and Henry Roby; and a sister, Gussie Buckner.
Memorials may be directed to the family at 525 Warren Drive, where they will be receiving friends.
