Rose Marie Saddler's Obituary
Rose Marie Saddler, affectionately known as Chickie, departed this life on Friday, December 20, 2024 at home of natural causes. She was 71 years old.
Chickie was born on February 9, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa. Her parents were Mack Butler and Vera (Taylor) Butler. Vera later passed away and Mack remarried. He married Marion “Sista” (Roberts) Davis and Chickie gained her “Mama.”
Chickie graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1972. She continued with post-secondary education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and then received a degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
Chickie married Matthew Saddler on November 4, 1982 at Antioch Baptist Church in Waterloo. To this union, she welcomed three step-sons: Tobie Balkmon, Matthew Saddler, Jr., and Mario McCall.
Rose Marie was employed at John Deere for 12 years in the Purchasing Department. She later became a homemaker. Besides Waterloo, Iowa, Chickie and Matt also lived in Dayton, Ohio; Los Angeles, California; Augusta, Georgia; Camden, Ohio; Blacksburg, Virginia; and Miami, Florida. After Matt retired in Miami, the Saddler’s moved back to Waterloo and resided there until Chickie’s passing.
Chickie was a loving mother to her sons. She was soft-spoken and extremely loyal. She was a “civic conscience” person…having been involved with the local NAACP chapter in Waterloo and her church. She enjoyed collecting ceramics and various items for her curio cabinets.
Chickie leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Matt Saddler of Waterloo, IA; sons, Matthew Saddler of Denver, CO and Mario McCall of Montgomery, AL; aunts, RaeDeane (Charles) Humphries and Edrick Roberts all of Waterloo; uncle, Willie Prymer, Sr. of Waterloo; paternal uncle, Kevin Butler of Forney, TX; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Tobie Balkmon.
