Rosetta Austin's Obituary
Rosetta Austin was born April 25, 1933 in Holmes County, Lexington, Mississippi to Willie and Rosie L. Washington. She was Called Home to be with the Lord and Savior September 30, 2024 in Waterloo, Iowa. She was 91 years old.
Rosetta was the second child of nine children. She accepted Christ at the age of 13 and was Baptized at Mount Epherin Church in Lexington. She later moved to Waterloo where she met Tiney Austin. Rosetta was joined in Holy Matrimony to her loving husband, the late Deacon Tiney Austin, on May 21, 1958 in Waterloo. They were married for 40 years. Mrs. Rosetta Austin was a loving and devoted wife. She hosted many holidays and family meals. Her family enjoyed her delicious pound cakes, peach cobblers, cornbread dressing, and homemade rolls.
Rosetta was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 51 years. She was a Deaconess and served on the Mothers Board. Rosetta was employed by the Sons of Jacob Synagogue and Black Hawk County Head Start and in many private homes as a Cook until she retired. She had a deep passion for taking care of others; her true calling was Interior Decorating. Rosetta had impeccable taste and a unique flair for design. Her attention to detail was apparent immediately upon entering their home. Rosetta had a love for cooking, gardening, shopping at yard sales, and antique stores. Rosetta devoted her life and soul to her family.
She is survived by two sisters, Sallie R. Brooks of Lexington and Minnie Lee (Cardell) Mitchell of Tchula, Mississippi; one brother, James Washington of Lexington; one stepdaughter, Rainey Louise (Nathaniel) Estes of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Rosie Washington; her husband, Tiney Austin; two brothers, Willie Washington and Nathan Washington; three sisters, Clarice Brown, Ella Ruth Wade, and Willie Mae Reed; a stepson, Robert Earl Austin; and a stepdaughter, Ferndell Baker.
