Ruby McClung's Obituary

A Time to be Born: Ruby Jewel McClung was born to the late Robert Lanier and Mary Broyles on March 16, 1942 in Hickman, Kentucky.
A Time to Plant: As a child, Ruby attended Indiana Pentecostal Church, Pastor O.D. Akin, in Chicago, Illinois. Ruby moved to Waterloo, Iowa where she joined the Gift of Life Church under Pastor Rainey. As an adult, she was First Lady of the Saints of Jesus Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor James H. McClung, Waterloo. She later joined Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church, Paster Henry Lee Allen Sr., Covert, Michigan until her death.
A Time to Build and Sow: Ruby received her GED from South Haven High School. She worked for many years as a nurses’ assistant for Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. She later moved to Michigan where she continued to work and serve as an in-home health care aide.
A Time to Love: Ruby was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Charles Dillard Sr. in Chicago, where they shared five children. Ruby later remarried James Henry McClung on March 17, 1979. They shared 42 years until his death.
A Time to Mourn: Ruby will be forever loved and remembered by her children, Roshelle (Joseph) Belcher of Iowa, Angel Dillard of Georgia, James (Nakitia) Lanier of Indiana, Yolanda (Dennis) Brunt of Michigan, Charles (Diane) Dillard Jr. of Iowa, and Aveilow (Teresa) Dillard of Iowa; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She is survived by six brothers, Isaac (Ladella) Tomlin of Indiana, Nathan Lanier of Colorado, Ernest (Andrea) Lanier of New Mexico, Willie (Birdie) Lanier of Michigan, Dale Lanier of Arizona, and Jeffrey (Gina) Lanier of Colorado; one sister, Rosa (David) of Tennessee; and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Robert Lanier, James Lanier, James Tomlin, Taylor Lanier, and Orestes Tomlin; and two sisters, Mamie Anane and Lena Tomlin.
