Tyrell Leon Gary's Obituary
Tyrell Leon Gary was born September 15, 1981 to Felicia and James Gary in Waterloo, Iowa. He departed us on Sunday, August 11th at Unity Point Hospital.
Tyrell, affectionately known as “T” or “Ty”, had a love for life. He was passionate, intense, and enthused about many things. Tyrell had a passion for anything with wheels. He loved racing cars, collecting cars and RCs, as well as riding snow mobiles and 4 wheelers. He enjoyed fishing with his dad, vacationing with his lady and boys, and spending time with his family and friends. His infectious smile would captivate anyone, and his laugh was both contagious and distinctive and was welcomed in all occasions.
Tyrell attended East High School, later getting his GED. He worked different jobs until Tyrell joined the AHT team in 2018 and was a Heat Treat Technician in their induction department for many years. A quick study and mechanically inclined, Tyrell picked up technical aspects of the role with ease. He was a dedicated employee, rarely missing work, and was loved by all.
Tyrell loved his family, and will truly be remembered as a family man. Being a “jack of lots of trades” Tyrell would often, though sometimes grudgingly, be found helping family and friends in many different capacities. Tyrell could be found fixing on cars, changing electrical fixtures and wires, or simply cutting grass as requested. He enjoyed family reunions and creating memories with all he loved.
Tyrell leaves to cherish his memories, longtime girlfriend, Meli’sa with their two sons, Tyrell “TJ” Gary, Jr. and Ty’lik Gary, all of Waterloo; son, Taky and daughter, Tekeira of Arizona; one brother, Aundrey Roberts of Waterloo, Iowa; two sisters, Jamesia Gary of Des Moines, Iowa and Amanda Gary-Howell of Raleigh, North Carolina; his maternal grandmother, Edrick Roberts of Waterloo; and a host of family and friends.
Tyrell was preceded in death by both parents, Felicia and James Gary; maternal grandfather, Leon Roberts; paternal grandparents, Thelma Moore and Dick Gary; maternal uncle, Pernell Leon Roberts; paternal uncles, Todd Gary and Marvin Sisk; paternal aunt, Kim Gary; two special cousins, Muharrum Johnson and Elizabeth “Dee” McDonald; as well as many other loved ones.
